7/15/2010 11:31:37 PM I started off with a junior set from the 5 and dime store. There were 7 clubs in the set, driver, 3 wood, 3, 5,7,9 iron and putter. I started playing in the 7th grade and played 18 to 36 holes a day for 2 seasons, and wore them out, literally. I then played Golden Bears part of the way through high school. Then went to Powerbilt, where I wore out a driver every other year. I used to get a new driver, play a season with it, send it in to be refurbished, then play another season with it, then retire it. Those were the days when all I had to do was play golf. |

6/24/2009 9:00:01 AM I used my first set of clubs (1960's Wilson Blades) for about 6 years until I was able to make my own. After 12 years I am still playing the clubs I made, I just can't seem to get rid of them.....mentally that is. Although I am sure if I were properly fitted for clubs it would make my game that much better.....ally that is. 4/30/2009 7:10:14 AM I brought a used set out of the classified cause I was 17 and a parttime job. But I brought new about a new later when I started getting some more hours while I was in college. I kept them for about 4 years till I was out of college. now it's about every four to five years depending on how well I like the set I have at the time. 4 years till I was out of college. now it's about every four to five years depending on how well I like the set I have at the time. |

4/30/2009 3:01:03 AM My first set was Ping Eye 2's (red dot). I had no idea what the colored dot was for, I had found the clubs at a garage sell and bought them. I played with them for almost two years. After gaining a somewhat consistent swing I went and got fitted for some irons, and man, what a difference. My only word of caution would be to have a consistant (relatively speaking, we aren't pro's) swing plane before getting fit. It could be a disaster to get fitted and then have your swing change, of course you could always have them adjusted at a later date- or just buy more!!!mewhat consistent swing I went and got fitted for some irons, and man, what a difference. 4/19/2009 10:52:52 AM Hmmmmm, the first set pretty much a mixed bag of department store clubs from age 10 to around age 35, then I assembled a set from Golfsmith and played with them until 48, then bought a used set of Big Bertha's from a Driving Range Pro and used them until I purchased my set of X-18's at age 58. Hoping to get fitted for the next set. Bertha's from a Driving Range Pro and used them until I purchased my set of X-18's at age 58. Hoping to get fitted for the next set. |

3/19/2009 10:34:42 AM I used my dad's hand me downs for approximately 30 seconds before I realized I need something with a bigger sweetspot than a pin head...Ended up getting the Nike Pro Combo forged set...I've messed around with some other irons, but always end up coming back to these...Just put Project X 6.0 shafts in them about a year ago, and it will take a lot for me to change...und with some other irons, but always end up coming back to these...Just put Project X 6.0 shafts in them about a year ago, and it will take a lot for me to change... |

3/18/2009 7:20:10 PM I kept my first set of clubs until my game "outgrew" them. They were R flex and when I first started they were strong enough for me. As my swing got better I started making good swings and getting bad results. My point is, when you are ready for new clubs, you'll know it. I don't reccomend getting fitted for everyone, especially if your swing is still "evolving". Have your swing speed checked to make sure you get the right flex, but unless you are unusually tall or short a good stock set should work for quite a while. When you feel you've reached your potential, then get fitted. As far as getting rid of your old clubs, they usually don't bring much on a trade-in, maybe saving them for your kids, or donating them to The First Tee is another option. results. My point is, when you are ready for new clubs, you'll know it.
