12/9/2008 2:17:33 PM I would just love it to be involved in a club nearby my location. I would think it unfair or inequitable to those northern clubs that as one plow picture shows a considerable amount of snow. I know if I had my second home down south I would be enjoying the weather and playing my heart out instead of posting. Although I am getting addicted to this site by its refreshing professional information as well as common duffers as myself and would still visit here at least once of month if not sooner.if I had my second home down south I would be enjoying the weather and playing my heart out instead of posting. 12/9/2008 9:19:48 AM Update: St. George Obession - USGA Approved Golfers Gone Nuts - USGA Approved More insight on Handicaps - When Stracka.com decided to offer official Handicap indexes from the USGA, the USGA reviewed our site and suggested several changes to comply before they could start licensing our clubs. One was to remove "unofficial" handicaps. This happened on December 1st. In time, we should have every metro area covered and we will certainly remove all the clubs that aren't producing and roll them into nearby clubs that are licensed. Bear with us. Our journey has only started. ;^)ewed our site and suggested several changes to comply before they could start licensing our clubs. One was to remove "unofficial" handicaps. 12/9/2008 8:57:59 AM ed2flowers. Thanks for the clarification. I assumed the reason we were no longer able to track here was because of a USGA agreement. I agree that after a reasonable period of time, inactive clubs that haven't finished their setup should be deleted after a period of time IF no one is actively persueing getting the club up and running. Me personally, it isn't that important to track handicap. I can do that from another site. It would be nice though to have an official handicap but I'm not sure I want to be the club "chairman". Just really don't want to assume that responsibility. Anyway, you answered my question which I had already reached that assumption. Maybe I'll continue to send out some feelers and maybe someone in this area would be willling to be the chairman. haven't finished their setup should be deleted after a period of time IF no one is actively persueing getting the club up and running. 12/9/2008 8:43:34 AM LOL. Thanks for the communication skills compliment ed2flowers ;) Now let's try to see how we can make all this easier... A couple of suggestions: 1- Here in Quebec we have a program called "public golfer". By becoming a member of the Golf Quebec association, I get to have an official RCGA handicap (USGA has licenced the handicap system to the RCGA). All I have to do for my handicap to be official and used in tournaments is to have my handicap card signed by my pro (who knows me quite well :). Golf quebec members never meet, except if they compete in local tournaments, which very few do. They are also geographically far away from each other. Having one single Stracka club on the model of Golf Quebec would solve all the headaches. 2- Now, let's assume that the USGA doesn't want to update their system for a few Stracka nutcases ;) How can we make it simpler for users to join clubs? I suggest two tactics: a- Targeting new users. Joining the club that's closest from where you live could be part of the Stracka registration process (it should be optional, not to turn off people). That way, we'll gather a lot more club members without any effort. b- Targeting existing users. We could t |

A couple of suggestions: 1- Here in Quebec we have a program called "public gry rounding up existing users when they post a score, for instance by offering them to join the club closest to where the score was posted (or better, the user's location if we know it). I don't need a USGA handicap, to be frank. I have the RCGA one already. But I like posting my scores here, instead of using another website and if I can get an official handicap through the site, great :) |

12/9/2008 1:33:51 AM Correct Chase - You can still post scores and track your scoring average without joining a club. You just won't have a Handicap Index, which unless you are playing in a USGA tournament should not be important. I wonder if there is a way that Stracka can provide a blank spreadsheet (excel) that members can import their golf score history into and determine the Index on their own. I can't see where the USGA would have grounds to object, because Stracka is not doing the calculation. That should appease members that don't wish or are waiting on the fence to join USGA clubs.mportant.
