Better move a little farther south than the western North Carolina mountains. I played today. Had the course to myself! Only 2 other guys showed up and I saw them once from a distance. It was cold today, about 33 degrees but sunny. The wind got up and it clouded over. There was just a little snow spitting now and then. Then it really cut loose. At one point it was difficult to see 300 yards!  I hit a great drive right up the middle that just disappeared into whiteness as it flew! I opened my umbrella as I walked to keep the snow off and stay dry. The greens turned completely white! Then, just as suddenly it stopped. The snow melted almost immediately and the greens were very wet afterwards. I only putted 2 greens that actually had snow on them.  By the way, snow sticking to a rolling ball has the same effect as slamming on the brakes! It was a new experience for me, I mean really, how many times do you play golf in the snow?!  I'm sure the occupants of the cars that passed that saw me probably thought: "look at that stupid idiot playing golf in the snow".  It was great, I was having a great time and I was in the middle of a pretty good round for me so I wasn't about to quit. I ended up with my best round to date, an 86, and I was able to practice a few more fairway shots, extra putts and chips and even threw a ball into a bunker just to hit it out. I played 2 extra holes and birdied one though I had finished my round and didn't get to count that on my score (%#$@  I got bogey on that hole during the round!) I played for over 4 1/2 hours just taking my time while walking along, reading putts from every angle, extra practice shots, I even harvested 14 lost balls from the creek.  Just a great, if cold day.  So, don't let the cold stop you, just put on layers and keep going!
