Short Game Challenge
Updated: 11/20/2008 5:01:47 PM
I am constently preaching to my students about the importance of the short game. They on the other hand are alway worried about distance and GIR. So I issue my students a challenge and would like to issue it to the Starcka nation as well.  Go to the course during a slow time. Play nine holes from the 100 yard marker in, with three balls on each hole. Play one ball from 100 yards, the second ball from 85 yards, and the third ball from 70 yards. Par with each ball is three so the par on each hole is nine, and the par for the nine holes is 81. see if you can shoot or break par. You will be very surprised by your score, and how many strokes you throw away inside 100 yards. Let me know how you do.

I am glad to see this topic has resurfaced. This is a great examination of your short game. Cogolfer, you need to reread the challenge and try again. You need to make threes fro 100, 85, and 70 yards.

WOW! I suck at 70 yard approach....good from 100 and Fair from 85 I will do this again before my next big round thanks Brisgolf great and fun practice idea. PS to whomever posted tying up a course use twilight hours and no one has an issue.

I played a 9 hole Par 3 course today and kept this in mind. I scored 3 on a 150 yard hole, 3 on 135, 4 on 85, 4 on 185, 3 on 165, 4 on 150, 4 on 150, 3 on 165, and 5 on 135. The last hole I hit my tee shot in a hazard which created the double. I only hit 1 GIR today(which in this case is a good thing) so I think I can say I passed the short game challenge.

Or better yet,, try to make par on a par 3 course. I don't know how it is where you play, but there is no way you can tie up a course in the DFW area doing what Bris is suggesting. But, I have to admit that it sounds interesting.t that it sounds interesting.

I do this frequently as I play a short par-3 9-hole course next door to me. Almost every hole, except for two, is less than 100 yards. Still very challenging and I have yet to break par. The closest I've come is 4 over which is good for me, but I'm going to continue going there to work on my short game as I know this is the most important part of anyone's game.t I've come is 4 over which is good for me, but I'm going to continue going there to work on my short game as I know this is the most important part of anyone's game.
