Ever Wonder...What If ????

Ever wonder what if? What if you took some of the great legends of golf from the past, Ben Hogan, Sam Sneed, Bobby Jones, Walter Hagen etc, Bring them forward to today with todays technology: Livelier balls, Graphite shafts, Forgiving 460 Graphite drivers with Titanium faces and custom weighting Hybrid "irons", etc. Include in that the quality of the courses and upkeep, hybrid grasses, equipment to tend greens etc. I wonder how they would rank today. Would Tiger enjoy the #1 ranking he now has? Could Ben Hogan, in his prime, using today's equipment, whip Tiger, Phil, or Sergio at will? Hey, how about Jack Nicklaus? Some consider him the greatest player ever in spite of the seemingly invincable Tiger. If Jack, with the ability he had in his prime just several decades ago, were in his prime right now with today's technology/gear, what would the scene look like? Could he beat any of today's great players at will?

What are your thoughts on this?

	dday39 10/24/2008 7:48:32 AM I think you guys are missing the major point which makes the great players truly great. Talent, ability, and equipment can only do so much. These guys are all world class competitors. I think if they were all on the same stage, you'd see some truly remarkable golf. They'd push eachother tremendously. I still think Tiger would be #1, simply because he's got a real killer instinct. He was raised to be better than anyone he'll ever see. The difference would be, #2, #3, #4, etc. would be much closer to #1. Right now, there's Tiger; and then there's everyone else. Someone on the Golf Channel I think put it best. Jack had Arnold, Gary, and some others pushing him; Tiger really isn't getting pushed. If Phil, Vijay, Sergio, AK could really push him, I think you'd see Tiger move up to a whole new stratosphere. Make no mistake about; we are witnessing a 1 in a million athlete. Enjoy it!
