Linfield National Golf Club - Overview

Getting ready for our first V-Tour. First time playing here and none of the yardages agree with the card. All measurements are from the White Tee Box.

Linfield National Golf Club

Blue Tees - 69.8/123 6365 Yards, Front - 3021 Par 35, Back - 3344 Par 36

White Tees - 68.1/118 6014 Yards, Front - 2913 Par 35, Back - 3101 Par 36

My usual move is to play the middle tees on the first trip around a course. I'm also in the habit of using the course rating to pick my tee box. I like to find the tees closest to two strokes under par, this is a par 71 so something close to a 69 rating works best for me. Here the Blue tees are closer to one stroke under par and the Whites almost three under. Based on the discrepancy between the card yardage and the measured yardage I'm not sure which way to go. The marks in parenthesis are my club selection notes and I've got hybrids off the tee for most of the holes, a couple of 3 woods and driver on just one par 5. The weather forecast for Saturday calls for high temps in the mid 40's so I figure on losing at least a club length there. I'm very curious to see how much elevation change there is here, that doesn't show up very well on the overhead view.

A little slice on a driver will put me in the junk by the cart path. A hot 3 wood will have plenty of room to roll out without any worry of reaching the stuff near the pond. Just need to keep it straight!

Notes from Don: #1 Fairway is usually wet so you won't get much roll

I'm a little undecided on this one. A nice cut driver will put it in the fat part of the fairway but I don't really need the distance. A hard deuce should be enough but that looks a little narrow up there. Looks like a game day decision, see what it looks like from the tee box I guess.

#2 You can really crack this drive without getting in much trouble. Trees are low and I've played the left fairway to get a birdie on this hole

In between clubs here depending on tee markers, elevations, and flag position.

#3 No elevation

No way of knowing where the tee markers will be. If it's up short the deuce puts me in a great position. If they are back away's I'll take a driver at that tree by the cart and try for a cut around the corner. I don't want to short sheet the corner but long past the cart path is no help either.

#4 Have to get drive almost to the cart path. Your lie will be downhill and you have to go uphill to the green

I see drainage cutting across before the fairway, if this is uphill the 3 wood is the right call. I don't want anything to do with driver here, if it's flat or runs downhill a little draw on the deuce might keep the ball from runnig through the fairway.

#5 gets to be more of a challenge each year as the trees keep getting taller on the corner, WAY uphill to the green

There's no harm in hitting driver here but I don't think I need it. I like a nice full 9 iron shot into the green, if the 3 wood carries a little long I'm still able to hit the pitching wedge. Not comfortable with my short wedge distances yet so I don't want to get much closer.

#6 stay left, severely slope right of the cart path

Have to see where the markers are but looks pretty straightforward...

#7 slightly downhill or was it uphill? But pretty straightforward

Try to favor the left side and avoid dealing with that tree by the cart path.

#8 Don't let that water bother you. Plays uphill and the tree to the right will give you fits if your're behind it

I'm still tailing off a bit on the longer irons. If I go with a 5 and start it to the left bunker it could work out well...

#9 tee box slants uphill and the shot is uphill and partially blind also, big green with 3 tiers

I might favor going a little longer here. Plenty of room to run and take that tree on the right out of play.

#10 trees on right can prevent shot to green, get it out there as far as you can

Looks like a pitching wedge to me, unless that green is really elevated.

#11 tricky club selection, can't see part of the green and it's downhill

I want to be in that fat little bulge off the tee and make this an easy hole.

#12 definitely a 3 shot hole, don't get greedy. Shot to this small green is uphill to a blind green

Need to push this tee ball ball far enough down there for a clean look at the green with getting tangled up in that that tree on the right.

#13 downhill 2nd shot to an uphill green that is severely sloped

I'm going to wait and see what this one looks like in person...

#14 tee box is usually crappy, downhill shot with swirling winds

I can just look at this and tell I'm going to want to pound a driver down close. See how my flow is feeling, maybe get a little frisky!! On the other hand if the irons are on... Decisions, decisions!

#15 left is death, 2nd shot is slightly uphill

The tee markers could be anywhere and I want to be just a bit farther down the fairway than I'm showing here to stay clear of that bulge to the left.

#16 hate this hole, doesn't fit the eye and is tight. This and #17 were a redesign from formerly par 5 and 3.

Be a real nice time to just nut a driver right off the sweet spot! Be the ball...!!

#17 OB left. 2nd shot is to a blind fairway. Stay left of the path on 2nd and 3rd shot or you'll be wet

Run it right up into that throat and see if I can close out the round in style!

#18 Tough finishing hole, fairly tight tee shot plays uphill and left is death. Bogey on this hole is a good score.
