Duel in the Desert – 2013
Fellow Phoenix Area #008 Club and Southern Arizona Golf Club Members (SAGC)
Get ready for the 2nd Annual Duel in the Desert Tournament to be held in June! This is a club vs. club event with only pride on the line!
General
· Date: June 8, 2013
· Time: 7:50 AM (Shotgun)
· Course: Dell Urich Golf Course(Tucson) in Tucson. Per Bruce, follow these directions since there is construction on the main streets near the course:
o 10 FWY East
o Exit Speedway and head East
o Right on Alvernon Way. Course will be about 1.5 miles on the right
· Price: $55 (includes golf, trophy fund, and lunch)
· Deadline: May 24, 2013 (deadline includes payment)
· Players: 12 players from each club will be allowed to play (24 total), so first to RSVP below AND pay will be chosen.
o Notes:
§ If you already see 12 players from your club sign-up below, you should still sign-up below in case backups are needed.
§ If one club does not reach 12 players, the other club will reduce its # of players to match to make it even.
· Format: Team net stroke play (see Format section below)
Registration
To register for this event, simply enter your intentions to play in the blog below and include the following:
· Tee box you will be playing from (see Rules section below for tee box selection details)
· Payment choice (see Payment section below)
Payment
· If paying by check, I will send you my mailing address
· If paying by credit/debit card, please include your email address as I will be sending you an invoice from my PayPal account. Please note I will be including the service charge which PayPal charges. This will be $1.90.
Format
· Format is individual stroke play incorporating handicaps, course slope and rating.
· Each club’s score will be the sum of all players’ Net Difference.
· We will use the Target Score system to calculate a Net Difference that will be used to compare all results so that everyone is competing on the same playing field. Net Difference will be calculated as follows:
o Course Handicap = Handicap * Course Slope / 113
o Target Score = Course Rating + Course Handicap
o Net Difference = Gross Score – Target Score
· Handicaps will be captured as of the last update (June 1) as calculated by Stracka.
o Only players with valid handicaps will be allowed to play.
Scoring Example
· Gross score will be compared against your Target Score to calculate a Net Difference (see example below)
· Please provide your scorecards to Pete or Bruce after your round.

Rules
· Each player will need to select a tee box they will play from so we can secure the slope/rating for your Net Diff calculations.
· Handicaps will be captured as of June 1, 2013.
· For a score to be valid, the player MUST hole out… no Gimmies!

A correction to Mark Tolkacz's score from -4.1 to -0.3 was due to a posting error by The Duel Committee (aka Bruce & Pete). This change makes Arky Muscato's score of -3.1 the best of the day for the second year in a row (last year he had a -9.0). |

6/9/2013 10:42:52 AM Congratulations to the Phoenix club on their win in the Duel lead by impressive rounds by Arky Muscato and Mark Tolkacz. Arky continues to play very well in not only the Duel tournaments this year and last but also in the Phoenix club championship last year ... if we all could only do as well. Next year, SAGC team members will travel to Phoenix to do battle again ... looking forward to 2014! |
