We all know how hot it can get in parts of the US. If you have ever played a round of golf in the south during the June – August months, you know this all too well! Think back, if you would. That hot summer day, you your buddies and the golf course issued cooler filled as full as imaginable. You are focused and determined. Who is going to get there first? You take your shot, No luck. Then your buddy takes his shot, No luck. Your heads just will not fit into that little cooler! I blame the course for the handicap cooler bags. Now your sweating even more than you should be because of the struggle to get that round thing on your shoulders into that tiny little bag. Your hands are sweating and you can’t grip the clubs and really don’t want to let go of the cold drink to take a hack at it. All of a sudden you have this incredible idea! You grab a couple cans from the bag and try to wrap them around your neck with your towel. Oh, why didn’t you think of this sooner? You all wrap up and head to the tee. The following ensues: "Dude, I’m so thirsty”, your friend exclaims. Where you respond ever so quickly and loudly, "get off my neck!”

I know maybe not exactly as described, but it could happen. So, what about those little "personal towelette” the golf course comes around with, as frequently as the VBU- Beverage Unit. Do you really think these are "personal”? Well I guess they are if you consider "personal” not sharing with your immediate friends. From my experience when I exchange a "towelette” it goes into the big cooler of ice, on the cart, again. That kinda makes me feel weird.

Fast forward into the 21st century, and technology has exploded into every inch of our existence. You have Titanium Alloys, Tungsten, even Composite Materials. What about putter materials like Elastomer? All this technology and you can’t keep from sweating your pants off except by using an old bar towel with cold water on it? I’ll call BS on that. Have you tried The Chilly Pad®? Manufacturer plug:

The Chilly Pad® is truly that "personal cold towel”. You get it wet squeeze out excess water and in a minute or two, voila- ice cold! I used one of these Chilly Pads® a few months ago in Alabama at a RTJ course. I didn’t want to use my drinking water to get it wet, so I dipped it into a lake and that did the trick. Generally these things are said to last for hours, but I like to re-hydrate mine more occasionally. That seems to keep it cooler for me.
