Duel in the Desert

Fellow Phoenix Area #008 Club and Southern Arizona Golf Club Members (SAGC)

Get ready for the 1st Annual Duel in the Desert Tournament to be held in November!  This is a club vs. club event with only pride on the line!

General

·         Date: May 19th, 2012

·         Time: 8:00 AM

·         Course: Francisco Grande Golf Resort in Casa Grande (link contains course details and directions)

·         Price: $50 (includes golf, cart, trophy fund, and lunch)

·         Players: 12 players from each club will be allowed to play (24 total), so first to RSVP below AND pay will be chosen.

o   Note: if you already see 12 players from your club sign-up below, you should still sign-up below in case backups are needed.

·         Format: Team net stroke play (see Format section below)

Registration

To register for this event, simply enter your intentions to play in the blog below and include the following:

·         Tee box you will be playing from (see Rules section below for tee box selection details)

·         Payment choice (see Payment section below)

Payment

·         If paying by check, I will send you my mailing address

·         If paying by credit/debit card, please include your email address as I will be sending you an invoice from my PayPal account. Please note I will be including the service charge which PayPal charges.  This will be $1.80.

Format

·         Format is individual stroke play incorporating handicaps, course slope and rating.

·         Each club’s score will be the sum of all players’ Net Difference.

·         We will use the Target Score system to calculate a Net Difference that will be used to compare all results so that everyone is competing on the same playing field.  Net Difference will be calculated as follows:

o   Course Handicap = Handicap * Course Slope / 113

o   Target Score = Course Rating + Course Handicap

o   Net Difference = Gross Score – Target Score

·         Handicaps will be captured as of the last update (May 15th) as calculated by Stracka.

o   Only players with valid handicaps will be allowed to play.

Scoring Example

·         Gross score will be compared against  your Target Score to calculate a Net Difference (see example below)

I think my score was 114, but everyone needs to know that I killed 1689 mosquitoes out of the 1893 that bite me.

Congratulations to my fellow SAGC members as we beat the Phoenix #008 members in a close competition.

Final results will be posted on Monday. I will post a link once I have uploaded the file.

Weather forecast: 65* starting out in the morning going up to 89* by noon. Winds at about 4 MPH. Couldn't ask for better conditions for the Duel.

ArizonaBlue 5/18/2012 10:34:57 AM
Jerry G has a good suggestion: Instead of one CTTP contest and one longest putt contest with each player putting in $5, we will have four CTTP contest ... one each of the par 3s ... and one longest putt contest. Cost is still $5 per person ... participation is optional ... if you don't want to play, you don't have to do so. This gives more opportunities to share the fun.

Pete-L 5/18/2012 10:16:08 AM
Table updated above with correct tee box selections for bcwin1 and akrasnow. They both initially selected Copper and changed to Blue. Course Handicaps and Target Scores updated appropriately.

Nice pairings. Random? Man why couldn't you at least make my group 18A Bruce? I wanted to see how accurate my driver is to put the ball in your back pocket. FOUR! $1 on closest to pin? $50 Bruce! I will let you press in the Bar after the round! LMAO. Hey, I heard the green tee boxes have been removed. Call them and verify before we get there.

ArizonaBlue 5/15/2012 2:36:33 PM
CLOSEST TO THE PIN CONTEST: There will be a closest to the pin contest on the FG Signature Hole which is Hole #3. We would ask that everyone contribute $1 to this contest which will be collected on Saturday.

We are a little over two weeks away and things are heating up! As some of you already knew, I backed out a few weeks ago due to my daughter's Pre-K graduation being re-scheduled for this day. I found out a few days ago it was re-scheduled yet again... same day just later in the afternoon, so I will now be attending. Jo Ann from SAGC is already talking some serious trash, but we'll see who's laughing at the end. Let's get that trash-talking started!!! LOL
