Shave 10 - 15 Strokes Off Your Game

Well, it's not really a new philosophy. It's new for me and my development in the game.

What I am talking about is simple. It is hitting fairways, playing safe. It is not hitting it OB off the tee. It is not going for par 5's in 2 unless I can definitely hit the middle with ease.

What is the philosophy?

Play for par on par 3, get lucky with birdie.

Play for par on par 4, get lucky with birdie.

Play for birdie on par 5, don't go wild and untamed.

You can two putt every green and shoot 72 or better. How? By playing this way. Set up your shots by being less prideful of yourself, and less arrogant. Play for the better score, not for the better yardage.

Par 5's give you the chance for a very easy birdie.

Example:

Say the par 5 is somewhat flat. Say it is 530. say there is water in front of the green 120 and in to the middle.

Why not hit your tee shot normal (for me about 260, 270). Hit a 140 to leave me 130 yards out. hit the 130 on, and because its a short iron, you have more control where it will go. That makes you more likely for sticking it within 20 feet. Maybe even 10. Possible even 5 feet or better.

This is the philosophy I will always play from now on. It is the best way to shoot 70's and maybe even better.

A great example is my round today. I shot 90. Front 46, Back 44. The front 9 I had 2 OB tee shots and two very bad ones. That led to four 7's. Two on par 5's. Two on par 4's. That cost me at least 10 strokes.

The back 9 I doubled a par three, I double a par five, I double a par four. I did all of this, because I wasn't playing that way. I wanted to be on in two on par 5's and hit OB. I over-swung my tee shots on those par 4's. That par 3 was just a bit of bad luck. Still,  the backside cost me at least 6 strokes.

So you then put 10 and 6 together, and that makes 16. If you subtract 16 from 90, that is a 74 my friends.

Play this philosophy, and become a winner.
