I would love to hear when people will call it quits in windy conditions. I just played tuesday and in the panhandle 15 - 20 mph is fine and that's where it was when I finished the front but halfway thru my shot on 10 it became 25 - 30 with gusts to 45. And, yes I finished and had one of my better scores. So when would you call it quits when no money is on the line?

5/24/2011 10:07:00 AM I continue to live by this adage: a bad day on the golf course is still better than a good day in the office.......wind or no wind, I am out there! |

5/23/2011 9:47:48 PM When we golfers in Hawaii get good trade winds it could reach 40mph on a cloud-less perfect day...Mostly its the courses by the ocean. Just another factor to deal with. I myself have learned to play the wind very well. So for me wind or no wind is fine...Play well and have fun. |

5/21/2011 4:44:11 PM when the flags start popping out of the holes ... that's something over 30 mph. Or if you can't stand up straight while putting. If you won't play in 25 mph winds, you don't get to play in Texas. Anything 10 mph or under doesn't cost me yardage hitting into it; anything over 20 mph is "windy" in my mind, and if the wind is over 25 mph or gusts are over 30 mph, I generally won't play unless circumstances conspire to get me on the course. |

5/20/2011 5:29:27 PM Playing as much as I possibly could a few years ago, I played a lot of rounds in the cold, rain, and extreme windy conditions. That was when I started working on hitting draws and fades with my irons to try to offset the wind. I think that was when I felt most confident about my game and it helped me learn to control my shots. NOW I'm just happy to be able to hit it straight. |

5/19/2011 6:52:41 AM Unlike most repondents so far, I hate playing in windy conditions over 15-20 mph. Not because of how it affects my game, but how it affects me. Just seems to beat me down. I would never quit partway through a round unless there was threat of lightning in one of our Texas thunderstorms. Dislike playing in the rain, but again, probably wouldnt quit if it was just a brief shower. When you can't see the fairway for the water, time to go home. :) |

5/19/2011 6:03:09 AM August 2009, playing at St. Andrewws, 55 degrees and 30 mph sustained winds with gusts up to 50 mph. One of the greatest experiences in golf ever. Wind is the only protection the Old Course has, with out it the Old Course is a pitch and putt. I worked my butt off to shoot 79 (43-36) and enjoyed every minute of it. I couldn't have done so well without a great caddy. Enjoy golf and never shy away from the elements!! |

5/19/2011 2:07:05 AM Played last year in Feb. here in Florida. Got the front nine down and called it when the wind was blowing my putts off line. Yes, seriously would blow the ball about 3 feet offline. |

5/18/2011 7:22:36 PM Glad to see there are a few that have learned to play in the wind. I think it can actually help your game a little as you really need to know what the ball is doing, spin wise, because the wind will often emphasis it. |
