Stonebridge Golf Course, Lakeland Tn.
One of my favorite courses in Memphis is going to have a makeover this year. Stonebridge has always been one of my favorite courses to play and has held PGA qualifiers there for several years. This is a par 71 course with the following yardage: Gold Tees - 6743 yds., Blue Tees - 6229 yds., White Tees - 5600 yds.
The greens have always had bent grass and was just about perfect when this was first created. The past several years....not so good. Memphis weather is just too tough for these types greens. I know in the last 3 years they have been the worst greens in the city. A lot of people have stopped playing this course.
Now the good news. There is a company that owns two courses in north Mississippi and they have just bought Stonebridge. Their first order of business....all the greens will be replaced with bermuda starting in June. This is great news. Stonebridge has always been a fair but tough course with some very tough holes. Now we won't have to worry about all the bare spots, or sandy spots or just plain craters that seem to always be in the way.
I can't wait.
