Thought I would take a small survey on the hardest golf courses in the Dallas/Fort Worth area!
Here are my top 5:
1) Tour-18 (Flower Mound)
2) Hidden Creek (Burleson)
3) Water Chase (Fort Worth)
4) Texas Star (Euless)
5) The Old Brickyard (Ferris)
Let me know what you think!

3/1/2011 7:08:05 PM Plantation resort here in Frisco is brutal if you have a hard time hitting fairways. Nothing but rough, trees and houses left and right on almost all holes. The short par 4's are surrounded on three sides with water, so accuracy from 100-125 yds out is critical. Not necessarily the toughest but a surprising challenge. My vote for toughest is Stonebridge (the Dye Course). By far the toughest I've played. Tour 18 is a close second if you play from the blues or tips. Can be brutally long. |

3/1/2011 3:06:11 PM Indian Creek has to be winning for the public courses ... on points, anyway. It keeps showing up in everybody's list. |

3/1/2011 12:39:49 PM Trails of Frisco takes a lot of thought or you lose a lot of balls. Indian Creek greens are brutal. |

3/1/2011 10:32:31 AM My vote would be Indian Creek - Creek's Course. When the greens are at there best you WILL have several 3 putts. Also on most approach shots there is no safe miss.Hit the green or have a very tough up and down, Followed by Tangle Ridge and Trails of Frisco. Just my 2 cents... |

3/1/2011 10:26:11 AM Great Topic jtap. I have to agree with Goynes about Stonebridge, it ripped my game to pieces a couple of years ago and I've just recently recovered. But I'll stick to the toughest Public Courses in DFW. 1. Castle Hills -- might have some of the fastest greens around, all you want from the tips. 2. Cowboys -- always well maintained, has some lengthy par 4's. 3. Texas Star -- always in good condition, several blind tee-shots. 4. Indian Creek (Creeks) -- fantastic lay-out with the most difficult greens in the Metroplex. 5. TOUR 18 -- it's a lot of golf course from the tips. |

2/28/2011 11:16:27 PM I've never lived in Texas, but I've played there several times. Of the ones I've played. #1 Stonebridge Country Club #2 Indian Creek (Creek's course) #3 Cowboys Golf Club #3 Tour18 (not particularly hard, but fun especially when well maintained) I can't say I've played the others on the list above. |

2/28/2011 10:35:23 PM What's Colonial rated from the tips? It's not public, obviously. |

2/28/2011 10:16:36 PM It ain't public, but I guarantee you Stonebridge (Dye Course) is the toughest course in Dallas by FAR. I've played it several times. It's unreal. It's tougher than any course on Tour (excluding the courses used for majors). It's very long, has lots of slopes, 12-inch deep rough and 15-foot deep bunkers (I'm not exaggerating either one of those). The rating is 77.6 and the slope is something like 150. That is INSANE. Of the courses I've played, here are the toughest (I haven't played your #2, #3 or #5). #1. Stonebridge Country Club #2. Lantana #3. Tangle Ridge #4. Indian Creek (Creeks Course) #5. Stonebridge Ranch Country Club (sister course to #1) |
