I wanted to share with you something that we are very excited about for the coming golf season...

--------

What is the Golfer Tournament Rating (GTR)
A GTR is like a credit score.  It tells other golfers how trust-worthy your tournament scoring is.

A bank uses your credit score to predict how you "may" pay your bills, based on several factors like your borrowing and repayment history.  A GTR will tell fellow golfers and tournament officials how you "may" score in tournaments, based on factors that include your Handicap Index and your scoring history.

Why create a GTR?
The biggest challenge in competitive "net" golf tournaments is that a player's Handicap Index may not reflect how a golfer may play in a tournament.

This challenge is evident in many golf tournaments.  For example, a golfer with a Handicap Index of 12.7 goes out and shoots a gross round of 73.  Computing the Slope and Rating, their Differential is a 1.4, and their Course Handicap is a 12.  This results in a net score of -10.6

When this happens, the tournament officials, as well as the field, can become very discouraged, wondering if the player was indeed sandbagging, or if they just shot the round of their life.

The GTR is designed to give the participants in a tournament a comfort level the other players have a GTR that is reflective of how they play in tournaments.

What are the Star Ratings of the GTR?
Your GTR can range from one to five stars.  Think of the GTR like an eBay rating or credit report score.   The more stars you have, the more trust-worthy your tournament scoring record is.

How will you use the GTR star rating?
We will have tournaments that may require a certain GTR.  For instance, we plan on having tournaments that require a higher GTR that provide bigger prizes than say a tournament with no GTR required.  The GTR will give you the confidence that you will have a fair chance to win.

What if I don't have a GTR, or why is my GTR low?
In order to establish a GTR, you must have an established handicap.  You must also have competed in at least 1 tournament.  If your GTR seems lower than your fellow golfers, here are some possible reasons:

  • Your scoring record is not long enough to establish a clear history.
  • You have not played in many golf tournaments.
  • Your tournament scores are significantly lower than your non-tournament scores.

How can I raise my GTR rating?
  • Play more golf.
  • Play more tournament rounds.

How Often Does the GTR update?
  • On your Handicap revision date.
  • Every time you post a new round.

Summary of GTR
The GTR is designed to give the participants in a tournament a comfort level that each player has a trustworthy scoring history in tournaments.
