After more than 2 years on Stracka I am in the need of saying something about comenting pictures published by us, all golfers and lovers of the game.
It is known that comenting photos give stracka points to the user, but comments should in my opinion at least or add value (maybe commenting your experience on that particular course) or making a comment that may add debate to the picture or the pictured guy (may be a pro golfer)
A lot of users just comment every single picture with one word: "nice", "amazing", "pretty", "cool", etc just to get some more points and I believe this is not fair. Points should at least be earned being creative with the comments on the pictures. This is what I believe would make the commuity more creative and participating in more debates and experiences.
For example: a guys posting his picture before teeing off at the old Course. This picture should make users comments their feelings if they have played there or what would they do if they finally get there. I simple "nice" really makes me sick, that picture has to inspirate some nice and creative words from every user watching it, don´t you believe?
Very different is vote "like" or "diskile": this should join te quality of the picture and the beauty of the place and maybe the pictured guy if famous.
All said, I just ask all fellow users to add value and be creative when commenting pictures, we will have a lot more fun.

7/21/2010 8:05:00 AM I think in an open site this will always be debated. The question seems to point to an editorial review. There will always be some form of bias in a persons comments as to what is proper. What photo gets posted? What comments are allowed? If a persons thoughs don't agree with mine should they be deleted? Very few comments come from inside the ropes and most are from the golfers who make up the galleries, non traditional golf clubs, serious and casual. Alot of comments are thought and never written. The site can never be prestine....orderly maybe. If anyone is offended by the interaction and comments of others there is always the option to get out their old additions of Golf /Golf Digest and look at the pretty, colorized, enhanced photos in the comfort of the throne room and read how to add another 20 yards to your drive. Now to me that is boring as compared to getting to see how other golfers, great/small, lesser/greater, rich/average/poor, get to see the game. Grading creativity is comparitive. Somedays nice is nice regardless of the points. I think of it like being put in a bad foursome....at least you get to play golf even though the company may not be so great, but they might feel I am the one ruining the round for them. |

7/21/2010 2:22:16 AM One word comments don't bother me at all. I leave one word comments alot of the time. The difference, I think, in what you are saying is that I don't leave a one word comment on every picture I look at. Only the ones that strike me, get comments from me. I leave my comments to let the poster know that I appreciate the picture...... in a way a "Thank You" for sharing comment! |

7/21/2010 12:33:05 AM This site should be more than a "Points System Race". It should be a collection of Golf Addicts that talk about the game they love. I don't care to see Forums from 2 years ago on the Main Page, especially if the Topic is not furthered at all. Example: NICE READ!!! How does that expand on the Topic? Many times there are some good Forum topics that get bumped because someone replied "GOOD READ" on a Forum from 2008. Maybe there should be 3 columns of : Blogs, Recent Forums, and Old Post (ones that are older than 3 months). As for the Photos, the 'Dislike' tab probably needs to be removed, it just causes too much heartache for many. And I agree that there should be some level of thought put into these comments on the photos. "Sweet", "Cool", "Nice", doesn't really do many of these photos justice. Plus, 95% of the time I just look at the photo & move on -- you don't have to comment if you're not feeling it. |

7/20/2010 10:44:48 PM Just kidding. I stopped commenting on most pics cause i can only take so many pics of the same course. If I have played it, i dont need a pic of every hole. If i havent played it, most pics do no justice. |

7/20/2010 4:08:48 PM Great Read! Sorry.....Couldn't help myself..... I'd say, if anything, maybe the comments section should expire after a certain amount of time....say 6 months.... Or...why don't they have the "Report" function like on news websites? |

7/20/2010 3:42:49 PM In the past few weeks, there have been discussions about people looking at old posts, people voting down on pictures, now comments such as Nice, Etc. Let's see if I've got this straight. Even though we are ALL equal members on this site, a group of you want to tell us: What to read, when to read it, what to look at, when to look at it, how to vote on it, AND NOW................................ What to say and how to say it? We can't post if it's less than 7 words?? One word comments aren't enough, maybe do away with the 2 word ones as well, like GOOD READ! Then the 3 word comments, TIGER! TIGER! TIGER! I'm picking on you Daniel, sorry. But there is a point system with rewards. These people are playing that system and earning points. It is a game they are playing to win and they play by the rules. I do not like reading the old stuff, but every once in a while, I see something I had not seen before. I don't like the notification thing filling up with so and so just commented on this, that, or the other. Especially when you go there and it says nice. But it is their right to do this. It may be irritating, and it is, but they are members too. Maybe that is all the pic does for them. Maybe they aren't articulate; I know, give a written essay before people can join. Maybe people are tired of seeing every friggin hole you played on your vacation. Maybe they own the yardage card you just posted. Maybe it's the 27th posting of the same pic of Natalie. Not that this is a bad thing..... The only way you are going to change this is to do away with the current system of earning points. HEY STRACKA!!!!! Do away with voting and posting points. Give the points only for clicking into the pics or reading the blogs and forums. This way, people would be less likely to post the garbage comments. And no one will get their feelings hurt because someone voted something down. Maybe only the first 500 people who click on current items get points |

7/20/2010 3:19:31 PM If it's some photo like at St. Andrews, Kapalua, Bandon Dunes, or Cypress Point than something more than "Nice" is necessary and gets a little annoying. But if it's non-related to golf or is something like a golf club or apparel than I don't see any issue. |

7/20/2010 1:51:04 PM There are more thing in life than worrying about the points system. I lost my dad this weekend. So if a few of us say Nice, great or anything about the photos, it's not something that none of us need to worry about. |

7/20/2010 1:47:54 PM Take a deep breath & relax... Who really cares if someone comments one word. It's not worth the trouble you took to bring it up. I'm sure the Stracka administrators have more important things to do then make new rules everyday for people that whine and complain about every little thing. Comments, photos, blogs, forums, etc... people can choose what to read or comment on. (Including you and this post.) I don't care if someone writes one word or fifty on any of my photos. If they took the time to look or write anything, great! Now go hit some balls! ;o) |
