I been golfing from the white tees most of my golfing career. I knew I would never b a pro lol. Im 56 now, soon to be 57, and im thinking about moving up to the gold tees. I pose this question ,do u think my fellow golfer friends would think Im a sissy if i went to the gold tees, I would hate to club one over the head. I think its time, unreachable holes makes it almost inpossible to play anything but boggy golf. the pros they turn senior at 50 so what do you think senior tees for me at 57?

6/28/2010 10:53:51 PM i think u move to the gold tee when you're having troulble reaching the green in regulation on the shorter par 4's from the whites. But you play with what you are comfortable with. if you can knock it down from the white tees...by all means do it, if you dont think you can hang anymore...move up one or two. Aint no shame in that. Play whatever tee suits your game and distance. i see some fellas hit 200 yard drives and play frim the tip 7200+ leave ur ego at the proshop |

6/28/2010 5:06:17 PM Put us in the ballpark by course yardages as we don't have gold tees at most courses here. Im 56, handicap around 13 but going down, and I am most comfortable with course lengths between 6300 and 6500 yards. That is usually the "mens" tees or blue tees. Whites are a little further forward and then the Reds (ladies tees). |

6/28/2010 3:33:32 PM I started playing golf and turned 50 ... all in the same year .. last year. My handicap index is currently a 11.5. I mainly play an executive course, but when I played a regular course last year, I played from the white tees. This year, I have started looking at a course for its distance and its difficulty. Since I'm a short-knocker (average 210-220 yds with the driver ... 140 with a 5-iron), I look to see what tees will give me the opportunity to reach the greens in regulation. This usually is a course of 5800-6100 yds. I am playing a course (del Lago) next Monday that has 5 sets of tees ... I'll be playing from the second set of the five. Why? Because it fits my game, it will keep the pace of play and I will enjoy the round more than if I shot from the third or fourth set and took 100 shots to do so. Players need to leave the ego in the parking lot and play tees that fit their game ... whichever those are. Your playing partners may not agree and continue to play tees that are too far back ... let them. I think that most high-handicap players are most like playing too far back. Play the tees that fit your game ... move forward if you need to ... and have more fun! Golf is hard enough without making it harder on purpose. |

6/28/2010 1:21:42 PM it's been said many times, but there's no age requirement for any set of tees. it's about skill level. if you feel you can't score from the white, then move on up |
