Today I'am mowing the tee boxes on the 8th hole and a foursome comes through and tees off. 2 shots clearly go left which is natural vegetation once you cross the cart path. So the foursome moves on and I finish my last box, as I roll down the path I catch the group and park so they could hit. While sitting there all 4 of them are off looking for lost balls presumably. As i sit I see a ball3 yards in front of me tuck into a drainage area full of rocks, and these men are 40 50 yards down looking for the ball. After 1 guy picks up a ball and discovers it is not his he still proceeds to play it. After his shot I roll up and tell him there is a Titleist back about 50 yards by the drain, he goes back and its his ball. Does this happen regularly as a mistake or is there part of us that thinks we hit just as far as our buds. Working on the course daily I see this happen more times than not and I find it hard to believe you can just drive right by your ball. Is it a macho thing or is this just a legit mistake?

5/24/2010 9:16:38 AM a lot of people 'think' that they hit the ball further than they do. I played with a guy who kept talking about driving the ball 305 yds. On the 11th hole (which is 373yds) he hits a decent drive. we all play our 2nd shots. i ask, you find it? he tells me, its up near the greenside bunker. (oh really) he never did find his tee shot |
