My wife is about to have a baby soon. I probably won't be playing too much golf. Any ideas of how to keep your game fresh during the 2-3 months of hardly playing any rounds? I live about 1/4 of a mile from a golf course, and can probably run over there for short practice sessions every once in a while. What is an efficient, fast practice routine to help maintain your game?

5/19/2010 1:16:31 PM Things are going great. Wife was basically up and mobile the next day. He was born April 28th. She had the baby in 1 hour and 21 minutes from first contraction! She feels good, and I have played two rounds of golf already. Baby is basically sleeping through the night now, other than nursing. I have been helping a lot when I'm home, so she hasn't minded me going to the course some (I only live .25 miles from it). |

5/19/2010 12:53:43 PM Take care of family first while your wife is not mobile. I started playing again once my wife can drive and walk around by herself without getting tired. We would trade off every other weekend so that each of us can have our "me" time. I would play one weekend and she would go off and do her own thing the next weekend. In the meanwhile, practicing in the backyward or even during your lunch breaks at work should do just fine. |

5/19/2010 12:22:12 PM Take care of mom and the baby...put off trying to play golf for a while. If you can putt around the house, get a chipping net for the back yard and then see about going to the range for a few practice sessions. Luckily for my husband, I'd tell him to practice when he had time but he would need to help me at night, but that's just me. Once your wife and baby are sleeping through the night well; talk to your wife about going to practice and/or playing a few rounds. Letting her know that your family comes first before golf could go a long way. |

5/18/2010 2:05:35 PM With the amount of sleep you and your lovely bride will be getting, you will probably not want to do anything with "free time" other than sleep. Should you actually have time when you have energy left over and your wife has had enough sleep for a change, run to the range when the baby is sleeping. you should be able to get in an hour or so of practice. But Like Daniel said, "take care of momma and treat her like a queen". Remember what goes around, should come around; so, make sure you give your wife the same opportunities to get away for a while as well. |

5/17/2010 5:25:19 PM Just take care of momma and baby and put golf to the side. You don't want the wifey to resent golf because you need time alone. She might say she can be understanding but it is a TRAP, don't fall for it. |

5/17/2010 2:29:14 PM First thing first, may Momma and Baby be fine, then take care of the important things that the new baby needs, help momma out, then after being a good boy get out to the practice range or keep yourself in shape by walking your child around the block or to the park. |
