So, today, my golfing buddy of 30+ years, myself and my wife drove clear across Houston (50+ miles) from the west side to the east side in Baytown to play Evergreen point Golf CLub. My friend raved about the course and I had heard much about it. I have been wanting to play this course for a long time.

Man, were we disappointed at the condition of the greens. They were miserable! They had almost zero grass. They were mostly sand with the bumpy residue from the leftover dead grass. They were so bad and bumpy that we instituted the "two putt rule." I use the two putt rule whenever I encounter greens so bad that putting is literally a waste of time. Whenever you get on the green, there is a maximum of two putts. This allows us to go ahead and putt for par or birdie even though the odds are that we won't make even a 3-foot putt. the direction of the putt is entirely dependent on which bump it hits last.

When I paid for my and my wife's green fees; $66, the guy at the register did not warn me that the greens were in miserable condition and give us a chance to back out. A few minutes later when I returned to the club house for an extra scorecard he did point to the picture on the scorecard and say: "while the greens don't look like this, we do expect that they will eventually look this." At this point I was still unaware that the greens were in terrible condition. When I reached the first green I was stunned. I stood there staring at a green that we shouldn't be playing on. My wife said to me: "what else have we got to do? Let's play. So we did.

But the course shouldn't be using the greens. They are just destroying them by continuing to play on them when they are so soft since they consist of only sand, no grass at all. They need to resort to temporary greens until they can restore the greens and they need to reduce the greens fee. They can't continue to use the greens and expect them to recover. they likely need to be re-seeded or re-sodded and allowed to grow back in. It's a real shame since the rest of the course is beautiful. And it's a challenging course. It sits next to the Bay and I suspect that the wind blows regularly. I have attached some pictures of the greens surface.

Wow for the price of the green fees, there should have been some warning.

Two comments I forgot to make: The pictures are very typical of the condition of all the greens. I did not just find one bad green and take the pictures. ALL the greens were like this. A couple did have a bit of grass on them but not enough for them to have used as a hole location. I like the course and I will go back someday. But not until the greens have been restored.

WOW! Looks like the Greens are Lost for the year. I, think they should have said something about the greens condition and let you decide if you wanted to play golf there.

If you go, report back on the condition of the course. We would appreciate it.

Fungus had killed off the grass on the green.
we had t several years ago. They had to over seed with some other type of hybrid grass to save the greens.

That is so sad. I've seen some marginal greens but nothing like that.
