On a friend's recommendation, I bought a dozen Wilson FG Tour balls. I gamed them on Sunday and I was very, very pleased. Nice soft urethane cover (like any other Tour ball), spun well (not quite as much as a ProV1 but still very good), felt great off the driver and irons with the same distance as any other Tour-style ball. Soft off the putter too! I mean, seriously, nothing to complain about at all.
And they are $29.99 at Academy. You can't beat that! Just thought I'd pass along the good word. |

I have been wanting to try their Tour X ball for a while but no one around here has them.

Did you have an opportunity to distance them with your short irons? I have tried some different brands from time to time, and i found that some can be as much as 10-15 yards shorter with the wedges. The same distance wise with the longer clubs, but just plain shorter with the wedges.

The same distance wise with the longer clubs, but just plain shorter with the wedges. If anything, they seemed a bit longer. I had a few short approach shots that were a little long. Not crazy long, maybe 5-10 yards. Could have just been me making a better move on the ball, but it happened a few times. Hit it pin high on several others though, so I think they're pretty comparable. |

I will keep them in mind. I have been using the Titleist NXT Tour S because of the soft feel. They are probably 5 dollars more a dozen. I haven't seen the Wilson ball. I wonder if Wal-Mart has them?

I have seen these at my WM, been looking to try this ball out too. I would also be interested in hearing input from anyone who is playing these. |

I usually play the NXT Tour or the Bridgestone e-6. so whenI tried the Pro V1 I guess I couldn't compress it enough with the slower clubspeed of the short irons. |

Thanks for the info. Tim. I think it was Golf Digest that had a ball test and these were pretty comparable to the Pro V1 and NXT Tour class of ball for wedge and driver spin. But there is a lot more to a ball than that, so I appreciate the report.
Note to others: Make sure you get this exact model as there was a huge gap in spin performance with the other Wilson models tested. |
