Playing the same course numerous rounds is a big factor in your play. I play 2 courses about 15 times each thruout the season, I dont play many courses that I haven't played numerous times before. Not knowing a course isn't my problem. I just have lost a consistant feel for my game.

I won't be the most consistent by my high and low range but am fairly consistent in general. My low round this year is a 70. My high round I believe is an 84 or 85. I usually start the year with poor rounds until my game warms up, but this year I opened with a 72.

My high round was a product of joining a new club and bombing a bunch of shots OB.

The game of golf is all about cycles and you are bound to put together career low rounds and career poor rounds. For me at least I can usually find my error in tempo. Generally speaking my swing doesn't vary too much. When you know its tempo related its easier to accept a foul round.

My highest round of the year was in a tournament a few months ago. Had a bad case of the hooks for two of the three rounds. My low for 18 this year is a 64 but had a score with two combined 9s that was 59. The two rounds with the hooks made my spread a little wider but if you take them out of the equation my high is a 77.

My high this year I believe is 97 and a low of 90, but most have been between 91-93. Consistent? You bet! Lol.

I had to look it up to know. Also, because different courses have differing par values and difficulty, I thought it was better to express the range as a course differential. For me this year my rounds have ranged from a high of 12.2 to a low of -1.7 differential. If you want a whole number we can say that on a course with a par and rating of 72 this would convert to rounds from a high of 84 to a low of 70.

So all of us are a bit erratic in our golf. That is why we are still amateurs and not on the tour. But, my scores this year range from 76 - 93. And that 93 was at Quail Creek, a very difficult golf course. And I have never scored well there. But that 76 was at The Missouri Bluffs, a course that had a course rating similar to Quail Creek. I tend to score well there. Maybe that course just fits my eye.
As a golfer I try to avoid the "blow up hole" to maintain consistency and keep my score at a reasonable level. I play for bogey on some of the longer par 4s and chip and putt for pars on difficult par 5s. This strategy decreases pressure and maintains my handicap.
Hitting driver, 7 iron and a sand wedge to a 422 yd par four is better than hitting driver, 3 wood into the rough, sand wedge into a bunker and blasting out for a two putt double or worse.

I have been from 76 to 89 with the high score being my last round at Disney where I was just having a bit too much fun. That being said I felt that I have been a lot more consistant this year just by the way my game has travelled with me throughout the spring and summer. For the most part I know where my misses will be on my full swing and like everyone I wish I could make a few more initial makeable putts.

The only thing consistent this year is the "inconsistency" of my game due to not playing much this year. Lows of around 81 and highs near 94.

I feel your pain I have no consistancy either; that's why i'm on a sabbatical, lol :)
honestly my spread of scores was getting ridiclously unreal. 87-102 if not more. golf had become not fun and too much work to shot a 56 on the front 9. I left the course and only return to go to work.

sounds like we are having similar years. I kind of lost interest and I have refrained from playing any tournaments at all this year and only playing for fun once in a while. I needed to take a break from competition and hopefully by next spring I will be ready to start playing on a more regular basis. And especially for my trip to St. Andrews in May, I'm sure that place will get my golf game revved up for the year!!

I think I had one round in the high 70's and got up to a 97, most rounds were mid 80's. most every round I would forget to take one part of my game with me to the course. not always the same part. Why do I love this game so much when it does not like me much at all???

So there is actually "a fly in our ointment" here. Range is NOT a measure of consistency. A statistician would look to standard deviation, but since no one but a statistician knows what that is, let me explain it this way.

Two golfers both play the same number of rounds at the same courses and from the same tees. Both have a lowest score of 75 and a highest score of 99. Player 1 posted scores of between 80-84 in 80% of his rounds played. Player 2 had barely 50% of his postings within a spread of 80-90 and just as many rounds outside of that range.

Who is the more consistent golfer?

Both trains would reach the station at the same time because as the tide rises so does the boat..:)
