I didn't want to keep going off topic on that PGA Championship thread, my apologies, but I wanted to finish with the NFL stuff we had started.
COG, I am with you on Tebow. Here's what I don't get. The two biggest fan phenomena of last season were Tebowmania and Linsanity and now both these guys are on new teams. Huh? I know those franchises are trying to win, but these guys were winning and creating excitement. I like that the Jets picked up Tebow, a class act, a quality human being, and a winner. Should be fun to watch.
Robert, you're right, I exagerrated the Cowboy predictions a little, but you kind of make my point. After their 13-3 year, a nice year, they lose in the playoffs at home to a division rival, who goes on to win the Super Bowl. Now, unless you just traded Tony Romo for Eli Manning, how does someone logically pick the Cowboys to win it all the next year?
Bucknuts, you are 100% correct that Rex Ryan, Rob Ryan, and Jerry Jones, all with the same team, would be a thrill ride like no other, and hilarious fun. You also hit the Cowboys' problem on the head: Jerry Jones. His ego will not allow for the Cowboys to be successful if somebody else is getting the credit. That's what happened with Jimmy Johnson and same with Bill Parcells, who laid the groundwork for that 13-3 team mentioned above. He's a brilliant businessman, but just a so-so football guy. Case in point, he made Parcells play Drew Henson, while it was Parcells who kept Romo around.

Who cares about those teams??? lol 49ers all the way.... ok they did have some good luck last year and won a lot of games that could have gone the other way. Eli is not that good. I don't think he is any better then Tony other then Lucky!!!!! Take lady luck away from Eli and he could not win more then 5 games a year.

Well lucky lighting struck Eli twice then! Romo can't even produce a cloud to house a thunderstorm to make lighting, let alone win 2 superbowls. AS MUCH AS HATE TO SAY THIS, the Eagles are going to be the team to watch I believe. They have the most talent IMO. Andy just needs to keep them focused and away from the media. It is going to be interesting to see what happens in Denver with Eli's brother this year also. This is going to be an exciting season to watch how it plays out.

To me football season was just something to entertain me until spring training started up again but after last years debacle and the hype coming out of training camp already, my Eagles better perform up to expectations or the boo birds will be in full vocal bloom quickly.

It did get him twice.Eli is good, not great. Think he is better then what we have right now with Smith. not sure Eli is a top 10 QB. won it 2 times. He did. one because 49ers fumbled a punt in ot. and the other because one of his guys held on to a very poor pass, the play was made by the WR not Eli. I to want to see what his brother can do with his new team and how his old team does without him this year. So looking forward to this season more then any the last 10 years. GO 49ers

Yes this does look crazy. In Jeremy Lin's case, more than one HOF player or analyst has pointed out that the Knicks have a lot of pieces that don't fit together. The style of play Jeremy Lin used so effectively is not the style of play advocated by the new coach and certainly doesn't fit with Carmelo's play. On top of that Houston put together a 3 year contract that was EXPLICITLY constructed so the Knicks wouldn't match it. That year 3 salary number was just too steep for the Knicks to accept. Would have put them waaaaay into the luxury tax.

Anyone who's followed Dallas since the glory days of the '90s ended knows that two on-field personnel issues have bedeviled the team: poor defensive backs and bad offensive lines. Carr and Claiborne might solve the first problem. As for the second problem, the tackles (Free and Smith) are great, but the interior OL is a mystery. New OL coach (Bill Callahan) might be the key to the whole season. If these two problems are solved, then Dallas romps.

Watch out for the Miami Dolphins. They ended last season strong. This year they will be running a fast pace west coast type offense. On paper, they are loaded with talent. Should be fun to watch.

CO, 5-11 ? Really ? pass on some of what you're smoking......

Sorry, but you don't lead last minute game winning drives against the Patriots 3 times in 3 tries to win. You just don't. And 2 of those were in Super Bowls. BUT, if Eli had the receivers Peyton did in Indianapolis, then I doubt Eli would have won a Super Bowl by now. Give Peyton New York's receivers, 2 at least, maybe 3. I hope the receiving core we have in Denver is good enough to give Peyton at least 1 more Super Bowl.

1 more for Peyton?? I don't think so. can they win the AFC West? sure all the teams suck 8-8 could win the West. but that all they will win. No playoff wins For Peyton, Now if he had gone to 49ers he would be looking at Back to back super bowl wins

I think you are giving the Eagles too much credit as they are one good hit every game from losing their only quarterback. Plus they may have added some good parts on the defense but I am still leary of the coordinator.

You think the Giants won the Super Bowl in 2007 because of Eli over Romo?

Did you watch *ANY* of that season? Or the divisional playoff game between the two teams?

Romo hit Paytrick Crayton with the game-winning TD only to watch Crayton drop it right onto the Texas Stadium floor. Hit him in the breadbasket. Drop.

I'm not saying Romo played a great game that particular game, but he won the game ... he drove the team down to the goal line and made the play that won the game.

As for this past season, Eli played just fine, but the NYG defense and in particular its pass rush is why the Giants killed the Cowboys. If you'd have switched QBs, Romo would now be a Super Bowl QB and everybody in Dallas would be sparing us to death about how Eli can't win the big one.

Hate the Cowboys all you want. I know it's big fun for fans of other teams. But please don't make me have to read ridiculous takes about Romo. I've watched every down of Dallas Cowboys football since 1990, and I can promise you that If Romo were the weakest link on the team right now, Jerry would have at least five and maybe six Super Bowl rings.
