After Michelle Wie's low round of the day put her in second place, I started thinking. Having just graduated from Stanford, she's really only just become a full time golfer for the first time in her life. Unlike Paula Creamer or Morgan Pressel or Lexi Thompson, she attended a real high school, and then a very academically tough university, not as a scholarship athlete, but as a regular student. She played on the LPGA Tour as a summer job basically. So, will she become more consistent, and finally challenge the Asians and Europeans regularly, or did she just have a good day yesterday?

I have always had the opinion that her career will not really start until she graduated from college. For all the hype and tournaments she has played in the past, her real "job" commenced the day after graduation so I will be an interested fan as to how she progresses from this point forward.

It'd be great for the women's game if she does. It's gonna come down to her putter. She's missed 6 of 10 cuts this year, will be 6 out of 11 once the week is over, but it's been all because of the flat stick. She and Lexi, the two players that could help the LPGA more than anyone have struck the ball great, but have literally made nothing on the greens. If she wins this week, which I don't think she will FTR, it could be a huge breakthrough and the start of something special. She has more pressure though than anyone, and it's going to be an extremely difficult test on the course anyways.

Dumbest thing she ever did was go to Stanford.

I'd love to see it, but what we haven't seen from Michelle is focus and drive to excel in golf. She has other interests and that's fine. But to excel at the highest levels takes a huge commitment, and she hasn't shown that commitment so far.

We'll soon know if she's ready now to do so, or not.

I think she should have skipped college and focused on being a professional golfer.

If I was in her shoes, I probably would have skipped college and gone straight to pro ranks. Right now, I'd love to turn pro and skip college, but unfortunately I'm a 7 handicap. Somehow I don't think a 7 handicap could compete on pro golf tours.

She did ... and her focus sucked so much that she ended up in Stanford.

Her entire career arc is the prime example of why kids need to grow up before they try to make their way in the adult world.

I don't blame her one bit for going to Stanford because it was the first right thing she did since turning pro. I hope Speith stays at Texas however long it takes him to grow up, so that he won't suck like Wie sucked joining the tour as an infant.

Yeah, she needed Stanford all right. That major in communications will make her gazillions when her playing career is over. Maybe Lebron should have stayed in high school, too, right?

I think when she gets out of college she will become a very good golfer, not great but very good, I think she is having Annika show her the way to playing at a high level again. She will be one to watch the next couple of months.

The degree has nothing to do with what I'm talking about, and if you could use your little gray cells for more than half a second, you'd not only understand that but acknowledge it. You're not capable of either, however, because apparently you're in a drunken stupor or drug-induced haze, for now you're comparing LeBron's NBA career to Wie's golf career.

uhhhh ... this debate is over ... i win. :)

Are you really a complete imbecile, or do you just play one on Stracka?

I know it's tough for someone like you who doesn't even have two nickels to rub together, so I'll put it as succinctly as possible so someone as dimwitted and clueless as you can understand: It's the money, stupid!

She's "sucked" so bad, that she's made over $4M in earnings at age 22, and another $20M+ in endorsement money. And the last thing Speith needs is advice from a two-bit loser like you. Maybe Lexi should quit golf and go to college, too?

I admire her for going to college; Stanford or wherever.....She is young and has plenty of time to excel in golf; she went to regular high school and college and experienced other things besides golf; it's not just about golf; and it's not about getting a degree in Wie's case; she already made plenty of money; it's about her making herself a well rounded young lady. As far as Lexi; yeah; I think she should do the same thing; why not? She is talented enough; she could go to school; or maybe just travel; or whatever; why should she miss out on her younger years; why should she not experience what a normal teenager/young adult would and just have some fun? Learn from some real life experiences and become a well rounded adult and I am willing to bet a better player in the end....Plenty of time for a golf carreer; money; fame; etc. etc.
