Here are some intereting facts I didn't know about a Hole in One from the National Hole in One Registery website.

Chances that a golfer will make a hole in one:

Tour player making an ace: 3,000 to 1
Low-handicapper making an ace: 5,000 to 1
Average player making an ace: 12,000 to 1
Two players from the same foursome acing the same hole: 17 million to 1
One player making two holes-in-one in the same round: 67 million to 1

Other hole-in-one facts:

There are approximately 500 million rounds of golf played each year in the U.S

On average each course has about 30,000 - 40,000 rounds played each year

Each course reports 10-15 hole in ones each year

A hole in one is scored once every 3,500 golf rounds

Only 1-2% of golfers score a hole in one during the year

Average years of playing is 24

Average handicap of golfers making hole in one is 14

Age group that makes the most holes in one is 50-59 (25%) and the next highest is 40-49 (24%)

Ball used most often is Titleist (45%), Nike (14%), and Top Flite (11%)

Facts just for women!

16% of holes in one are made by women
Average age is 55
Average years of playing is 15
Average hole length is 111 yards

Interesting to me that the highest number of hole in ones come from the 50-59 age group, my guess would be 1. they are retired and play every day, 2. most of them play from the shorter tee's and 3. alot of the older people I play with don't swing hard but are straight down the middle everytime.

Don't think you know everything about aces since you now have one under your belt... yes i'm just jealous. We have a member who has aced 3 out of 4 par 3's and hes damn near 80. He's probably one of the rudest people i've ever met so maybe there's a stat on that!

lol, there's one fellow out there who has 3 himself and he's about 80! He also is one of the rudest people I have ever met. He acts like his crap doesn't stink. I know I was just lucky, as GJ13 called me the other day (Lucknut). lol

Average player odds...12,000 to 1.....hmmm....12,000 holes divided by 4 par 3's per round equals 3,000 rounds of golf before i get one.....i still have a ways to go....

The closest I've come is about a foot at the 2nd hole at Family Sports Golf Course with a hybrid back in November 09. The closest I've seen in a group was back on Monday when my dad hit his tee shot on the 10th at Broken Tee Englewood to a half foot. I have seen one though and I am never going to forget it. Think it was back in May or April. My dad and I are on the 17th tee at Littleton Golf Course waiting to hit our shots. We look behind to see how shots turn out from the group behind at 16. There's a 4some, 2 guys, 1 woman, 1 7 year old. First 3 hit and no one hits it on the green. One guy nearly hit us his shot was so bad. But then the kid gets up. From the red tees at about 80 yards he hits a wood, pretty low, runs up to the green, going at a near perfect speed by the time it gets to the green and see ya. In the hole, first HIO I've ever seen in person by a 7 year old. I was playing like crap already and that was insult to injury.

I was on the first tee box at a local course and there was a group teeing off in front of me. I watched them hit their shots and one of the guys cut the corner. We met again at the second tee box and they said that the guy aced it.

I caught up to a threesome on hole 8 at my home course and watched one of the guys hit one in from 115 and his first ace. I have came close to hitting one a few times including two that stopped within two inches in the same round.

I got one 3 years ago in front of 5 of my buds playing a round before going together to our church's men's retreat. They all made a big deal about it. I told them I figured I'd played about 18,000 holes of golf and what this meant is I got 1 out of 18,000 holes right.

Couldn't be that they are in the prime of their golfing life, could it?

I have been lucky enough to get 3 (I also have bowled 3 perfect games) Weird thing is I got my first in 1981, my second in 1991 and my last in 2001. Every 10 years!! Hopefully I can keep the streak going this year! Cutting my finger off in April slowed me down for a while but I'm finding my stroke again.

That means your do for another anytime now.

Have come very close 2 times:

1. The first time was a 175 yrd par 3. The ball actually dipped into the hole and then came back out, we watched it happen. The ball was hanging over the edge of the cup when we got to it.

2. 160 yard, landed right next to the hole (the ball mark was right next to it) and stopped an inch from the hole.

I have had two eagles though. My friend holed out from 185 yards for eagle a few weeks back. Neither of us have done it from the tee box on a par 3 though. Maybe one day!

Interesting topic. I met a guy last night while in the store and we both laughed because we had on "golf attire." I said did you play today and he said, nah Tuesday. Then he said I hit a hole in one. I was like well congratulations. We went on talking blah blah blah. The funny thing is, he was in the age range reported, and it was his first in over 30 years of golf. I know it is comeing one day for me.

Another quick story. My father in law was playing at a course and they were on a par 3 and everyone hit their ball. So they went down to find them, and one golfer couldn't find his ball anywhere. They were all confused because they knew it was in play and it hit the green. Finally someone looked in the hole after a "more than regulated time or excesive time to look for a ball." Hole in one. When I do hit one, I am packing it up and going home and kick my feet up, because I won't let anything ruin that day.

Those are amazing facts. I would like to know how long it takes a golfer to get his/her first ace (on average). I know my father-in-law has nailed 4 in his life and my Grandfather made one in his life. Very Interesting!!!

As Bucknut reported in his original post: "Average years of playing is 24". You probably just overlooked it.
