We all want to get better. What if you got perfect? Down the middle and onto the green, two putt and on to the next hole to do it all over again. Would you miss the game as you play it now. The challenge to get out of the woods. We face hard shots on a regular basis that great players only have one or two a round. I think we are all great as we manage par from some terrible lies. Would you miss the challenge you have now for all perfect shots.

This is a good question. I think this deserves full attention. More attention than I can give at this moment. I will return with a more extrapolated statement.

I'm not too worried about this ever happening to me, but based on your scenario, I would miss it. There is no shot that gives me more joy before, during, and after the shot than a difficult shot within 30 yards of the green. Usually one that requires a flop shot. If I don't get to hit a flop ever again, it'd suck some joy out of my heart.

Not seeking perfection here. I just want to eliminate the left miss that adds so many strokes to each round.

I do love the hard shots. Last week I missed right so bad on the par 5 #13 at the creek I was across the parallel fairway and on the up slope of the #12 red tee box. Drive went 285 yards and I had 190 blind shot to the green and a 10 yard wide opening in the trees halfway to the hole. Ball above my feet and left foot higher than the right. I choked up on a 4 iron, lined up, and let her rip. Ball disappeared over the hill and found the green. Two putt birdie!

Interesting definition of 'perfect' golf. I suspect any person who played the way you defined it would face a lot of frustration. Think about it. What would it be like to never hit your approach shot close enough to make birdie? Or get it close enough and never make the putt.

But I get your point. A lot of joy comes from making a great recovery shot--and that would be lost.

One of the great things about golf is the enjoyment that can found regardless of the score or the player's ability.

Hitting every fairway and green would get boring if you two putted every GIR too. I would rather have a few one putts in there. And unless there was money on the line it would get old really fast. Not to mention that we play this game because it is challenging and not because its easy. If we lose that challenge then there is nothing to strive for and interest just goes away.

I would love to get that good. Almost all the golf I play has a wager on it, and I hate losing.

I would bet that any pro that shot even par , EVERY time he played, would make most every cut. and would end up winning big money and live happily ever after!
that's just my opinion!

I don't know about that. There are a lot of cuts that are well under par.

Great question. I sort of LOVE the scrambling, and friendly wagering. It makes the game more interesting.

That 5' sideways putt to win the hole, or the round...the pressure...knowing they are quietly laughing as they stand behind you....and you miss!!!

Loser has to drive the cart next round!

I suck at this game...BUT LOVE IT!!!!

An article came out a few years ago about how much $ a Pro would make shooting just even Par. The Answer: he wouldn't keep his tour card. Only 5 % of the cuts were at Even par and those were Majors. The "typical" Pro wouldn't have enough Top 10s or World ranking points to qualify for those majors. He would make less than $60K for the whole year shooting Par.

I do not think, personally, it is the definition of perfect golf or even enjoyable golf. I need to make birdies.

You couldn't make the tour shooting even par. You wouldn't win a qualifier and you certainly wouldn't make a Q School cut.

I wouldn't call it perfect to two putt every green, take putting out of the equation and yes I would be more than happy never missing a fairway or a green.

I feel like I am close to achieving that goal!!!

Just give me say one hundred years when my body is made up of robotic parts.

Just need to make a transformation like this guy did.

Wow. Seems I rattled some feathers here. so are you guys telling me that if a golfer shoots even par after two rounds that he will NOT be in the top 70 players in that tournament? Seems unlikely to me. But hey, what do I know.
BTW the way, I wouldn't be unhappy with all pars. Pars never get boring to me.
